The Ministry of Environment, Urbanization and Climate Change of the Republic of Türkiye has published the Draft Regulation on Single-Use Plastics for public consultation. The draft has been prepared in alignment with the European Union’s Directive (EU) 2019/904 on the reduction of the impact of certain plastic products on the environment (Single-Use Plastics Directive).
Under the draft regulation, requirements regarding the placing on the market, consumer information, and product marking are introduced for certain single-use plastic products. Among the product categories relevant to the cosmetics and personal care sector, wet wipes containing plastic are of particular importance.
The current draft stipulates that the relevant marking obligations will enter into force on 1 January 2027. Accordingly, it is important to assess whether products currently available on the Turkish market or intended to be placed on the market fall within the scope of the draft regulation and to plan any necessary packaging and labelling updates in advance.
For brands with product portfolios that include wet wipes containing plastic, it is recommended to assess the status of the relevant products under the draft regulation, identify potential compliance obligations, and plan the necessary compliance measures. In addition, for products placed or intended to be placed on the European Union market, reviewing the applicable marking and language requirements is recommended to mitigate potential compliance risks.
